Way OOC: Other!Alanna (info for Otherways)

Ji! Look! *keeps to the pact*

As previously expressed by the rest of the Tortall crowd (i.e. those far less lazy than I), Other!Alanna was not at all successful in her bid to switch places with Thom at age ten. Dreams crushed, she was bundled off to the convent in the hopes that she would become a lady. Not surprisingly, she was extremely resistant to this idea and became the official convent troublemaker.

Alanna and Delia are thrown together for one reason or another and quickly become friends. Sensing that there is more to Delia than a desire to do well in sewing lessons, Alanna begins to encourage her to take part in her mischief making. Primarily, they sneak out of the convent at regular intervals to go swimming at night or down to the marketplace. This frequently lands them in trouble, but also provides them with a much needed outlet. To Alanna, the convent represents a prison, and she generally feels like it's choking the life right out of her. Delia represents breathing room and oddly enough, sanity. As the years pass, their friendship turns into a relationship, and Alanna is Not Happy when Delia journeys to the Corus and court life a few months before she can follow.

Despite her aversion to the idea, Alanna does become a lady. Rules of deportment and courtly rituals are drilled into her head. Unlike canon Alanna, she has no need to unlearn how to walk like a boy. Although she does own a pair of breeches that she occasionally uses to sneak out, her wardrobe consists mainly of *gasp* dresses. Her appearance does remain less than meticulous however, as she still has other things on her mind than a perfect coif or wrinkle-free gown.

When Alanna arrives at Court, she is wary, nervous and bitter. Everything in her screams out that she does NOT belong there, that the ridiculous, archaic concept of parading her wares in the hopes of capturing a well-placed noble husband is an insult. Although she is overjoyed to see Thom again and hopes that he will understand why she feels so trapped, she can not help but harbor feelings of jealousy. It all boils down to the fact that Thom got the life she wanted so desperately, and he doesn't appreciate it.

Alex of Tirragen becomes an unexpected ally, agreeing to teach her a thing or two about sword play. Alanna soon realizes just what she had been missing out on at the convent in more ways than one, and they have an affair. When Thom dies during his Ordeal of Knighthood, Alanna turns to Alex for comfort, and their affair turns into something more meaningful.

Like canon Alanna, Other!Alanna's Gift is unusually strong. However, unlike canon Alanna, she has not used it enough or had the training to be entirely comfortable with it. She still fears her magic, and tries to ignore it for the most part. This is not a particularly wise course of action, as gifts from the gods are not meant to be ignored. When she does use her Gift (and sometimes when she doesn't), her control over her power is tenuous at best.

Not yet married off, Alanna continues to look for a way out of the life she sees stretching inevitably before her. Still impulsive, daring and badly in need of the occasional escape, she manages to sneak out of the palace to wander the city every now and then. Sometimes, she even disguises herself as a young lad named Alan. Although this has yet to be discussed with George-mun, I imagine they somehow manage to cross paths and become friends.

Oh, and Other!Alanna is more overtly swenchy. Less blushing. XD
