Alanna drags herself along the staff corridor and into her room. Breathing erratically, she stands there in utter confusion. What in Mithros' name just happened? Blood from the gash in her side is gradually soaking through her shirt and cloak, but Alanna pays no attention. She glares at Werewindle, shocked and ashamed that she let the sword get the upper hand. I was foolish, Goddess. Please forgive me. Snarling, she flings the sword across the room and nearly doubles over from the pain.
Wiping furiously at a few stray tears, Alanna leans against the door. It occurs to her to use her Gift to heal herself, but she's not sure she would survive the experience. If only she had used Tim's arm band this morning. Late last night, she had practiced with the band, siphoning off some of the excess power. For some reason, she had panicked in the early morning and taken it all back. It had proved to be a near fatal lapse in judgment.
Alanna straightens, deciding that her best option is to get to the Palace healers as soon as possible. It is far less risky to turn herself over to them. They would have her patched up in a matter of hours, and she could be back before anyone even knew she was gone. She breathes a quick sigh of relief that Angel is now on the security staff, freeing her up for a few days. Even after being healed, she is likely not going to feel well for awhile. Nodding with grim determination, she glares at Werewindle one last time and exits the room.
Besides, the sooner she gets healed and returns, the sooner she can use her own Gift to fix Alex. She owes him that.
