The day passes far too quickly. Late in the afternoon, Alanna disappears out to the main bar. She returns twenty minutes later with an armful of clothing and various other items Bar saw fit to provide. All of it is tossed on the table before she starts weeding through, occasionally making small noises of confusion. She seems particularly befuddled by the tube of red lipstick. Vixen? Perhaps that was meant for someone else.

Hopefully not Indy.

"I think they forgot to cut legs in these pants," she says, holding up a long, thin skirt. "Although I rather like this sweater."

Alanna pretends not to notice. "What are you reading?"

Adam shrugs, and lowers his eyes again to the page.

"It must be fascinating."

Biting her lip, she smooths a wrinkle out of a khaki shirt. She feels guilty and hates it. Ignoring the stack of clothing for a moment, she drapes herself over the back of the couch and kisses his forehead.

"I love you."

He doesn't look up, but his mouth curves into the hint of a smile. Absentmindedly-

"I love you, too."

Kicking her feet off the floor, she balances and tries to get him to look at her, making faces all the while.

"Aaaaaaaaaadam."

Eyes where?

Right. Book.

"Yes, Alanna?"

"Please don't be grumpy with me. I shall be forced to steal your book."

She screws her face up until it goes bright red.

"I'm not grumpy with you. I'm simply grumpy in your general vicinity."

Quick as a wink, she has his book and tosses it further down the couch.

"Then I shall do my best to change that fact."

He scowls. Just a little.

"Why, you'd rather have me grumpy with you?"

"No, I'd rather not have you grumpy at all."

She smiles and leans down further.

"Although you do look awfully cute when you scowl."

That? Only makes him scowl more.

Pout, Adam, pout.

Tilting her head as far as it will go, she ruffles his hair and grins.

"Is there anything I can do to make it better?"

Adam shrugs.

He definitely doesn't lean into her touch.

...much.

Less ruffling now. Definitely more stroking.

"Steph said she met you yesterday."

Reluctantly-

"She's the really hyper one?"

Alanna laughs.

"Let's call it spirited. But yes. I think we have our first babysitter when we have need of one."

He looks at her with a wry smile.

"Not even pregnant, and you're already pawning the children off. Tsk."

And then winks.

"I will have you know," she says loftily, "that I was thinking of you and I spending time alone together."

For that, he soon finds himself squashed under one knight.

OOOOF, goes the Adam.

"Well, in that case, I suppose it's alright."

He leans in and puts his head against her shoulder.

Alanna wraps her arms around him as best she can.

"I'll be back before you know it."

"When I wake up?"

He blinks at her innocently, and isn't quite serious, as much as he'd like it that way.

"Perhaps not that soon," she says with obvious regret. "Do you know anything about 1938?"

He narrows his eyes at her.

"Aside from the beginnings of a World War?"

Alanna swallows, eyes going wide.

"I'm quite sure we won't be involved in that."
