Jonathan,
I'm having some trouble catching you between meetings, so I must regrettably inform you of this by letter. I suppose I could storm in and demand a moment of your time, but you've long taken issue with my usual entrances.I am not being cowardly, merely prudent.
We've had some rather serious trouble with Roger. I should have come to you sooner, and for that I do apologize. However, I acted as I thought best at the time, and I humbly request that you keep that in mind.
No, really. Sit down. I'm quite sure the country will be at a loss if your head explodes.
Are you sitting? Grand.
Essentially, it is a good thing I did not swear that oath to you and George that day. You remember how I was on edge and convinced Roger would act soon? Well, I was right. Unfortunately, I did not wait around and instead forced his hand. I broke into his room (again) and pushed him into revealing his plans. However, Roger did not fail to anticipate me this time. Rather, I underestimated him, and how well he knows me - knows what drives me.
He had three wax images, Jon. Image-magic - George, Adam and Ingress.Incidentally, have I mentioned Adam? I'd like you two to meet. I'm very much in love with him, and... er. I haven't told George yet either. He placed all three in an ebony box that once shut, sealed itself and left no visible catch.
The box was made of stone from the Black City.
I, predictably, went rather insane at this. Roger informed me that unless I let him drain my Gift for two weeks, the box and the people inside would disappear entirely.
I had no choice, Jon. Surely you see that?Think of your Mother, and what the image-magic did to her. In any case, that is why I've been hard to find as of late. Everything is fine, do not fear. The box was found, the images freed and my Gift is now safe. I think.
However, I highly suggest you have your mages and Mithran priests get to work on the problem of time travel. It seems Roger found a way to return and intends to alter what took place at your coronation. Hence the need for my Gift, which is mostly returned.
I remain your loyal vassal, bound to my honor and my word. Please try to remember that?

P.S. Remember that a knight's (even a Kingly one) first duty is to understand.

As he finishes the letter, he resists the urge to tear it into tiny shreds. Instead, he closes his eyes and takes a very long and very deep breath. He then seizes a quill and turning the note over, begins to scribble.
Sir Alanna the Lioness,
As your King, I am appalled at your actions. You not only put yourself, but your people in danger by this confrontation.
In light of these events, I hearby order you to report back to Tortall to prepare for Border patrol, beginning at the end of this week. Do not fail at your peril.
Jonathan of Conte, King of Tortall
P.S. Remember that a noble's first duty is to their people.
The handwriting on the letter is noticibly shaky and purposefully formal. Jon doesn't trust himself enough to write plainly. He seals the letter and labels it carefully.
"If I can only keep myself from strangling her when I see arrives..."

KING JONATHAN,
Do you not think you are overreacting just a touch? I was trying to protect Tortall. Our PEOPLE. Who knows if we would have gotten wind of Roger's plans in time had I not done what I did? Do you honestly think he wouldn't come up with some other scheme to get what he needs?
Don't be pig-headed.
I know I'm sworn to obey my overlord, but border patrol?!?!
At THIS time of year? That's a bit sadistic. What of my duties here?Fine. However, we recently lost our other co-head of security, Jon.
That leaves us shorthanded.I can notFine. I will do your cursed border patrol as my oath leaves me no choice. Tusaine, if I must. But I need you to write Bernard Wrangle a letter and explain that you are ordering me to do so.I ask that much of you, as my friend.
I am sorry, Jon. But everything turned out for the best, and maybe we have the edge now.
You're just upset because I didn't tell you at the time or ask for your help.-Lioness
P.S. Perhaps it is best if our paths not cross until I return. I've no wish to be throttled.
P.P.S. Did you propose yet?
